On the 15th of October, a new and deeply personal chapter begins.

After years of dedication to guiding, teaching, and sharing the waters of Scotland, I will be stepping into a full-time commitment to something even bigger — a completely free charity focused on helping individuals facing life’s challenges through the power of fly fishing.

Why Fly Fishing?

Fly fishing is far more than just a sport. It’s a proven way to slow down, reconnect, and find clarity in a fast-paced world. Standing in a river, casting a line, and focusing on the rhythm of the water allows the mind to reset in a way few other activities can offer.

Across Scotland — from remote Highland lochs to iconic salmon rivers — we are surrounded by some of the most peaceful and restorative environments in the world. These places offer more than scenery; they offer space to breathe.

Supporting Mental Health Through Nature

This new charity will focus on helping individuals dealing with:

  • Stress and burnout
  • Anxiety and depression
  • PTSD and trauma
  • Social isolation
  • Life transitions and personal challenges

Through structured fly fishing experiences, guided days, and supportive learning environments, we aim to give people a genuine escape from everyday pressures.

Time spent outdoors, especially near water, has been widely recognised for its positive impact on mental health. When combined with the focus and mindfulness required in fly fishing, the results can be life-changing.

What We Will Offer

Our programme will provide access to fly fishing opportunities across Scotland, including:

  • Free guided fly fishing days on rivers and lochs
  • Free beginner-friendly fly casting tuition
  • Free group sessions to build confidence and community
  • Free one-to-one support experiences
  • Free equipment provision for those who need it

No experience will be required — just a willingness to step outside and try something new.

More Than Fishing

At its heart, this initiative is about people.

Over the years, I’ve met individuals from all walks of life. Some came for fishing, others for the experience — but many left with something far more valuable: perspective, connection, and a sense of calm.

This charity builds on those moments.

It’s about creating a safe, supportive environment where individuals can step away from the noise of daily life and reconnect with nature, with others, and with themselves.

A 100% Commitment

From the 15th of October, this will become my full-time focus.

Every ounce of effort, experience, and passion will go into building something that genuinely makes a difference. Scotland provides the perfect setting — now it’s about making it accessible to those who need it most.

Looking Ahead

As we move closer to launch, there will be opportunities to:

  • Get involved as a participant
  • Support the charity
  • Volunteer or collaborate
  • Sponsor individuals or programmes

This is just the beginning, and the vision is simple — to use fly fishing in Scotland as a powerful tool for wellbeing, recovery, and positive change.

Final Thoughts

Life can be overwhelming. We all face pressures, challenges, and moments where we need space to reset.

Sometimes, that reset starts with something as simple as standing in a river, making a cast, and watching the line settle on the water.

Tight lines — and open minds.
